Removing the background of a particular image can make a the focal piece of the image more useful. For example, by taking out the background foray of a fashion model image, you can apply that fashion model in any setting. More over, background removal is much more than just replacing a background but rather taking the focal piece IE "fashion model" out of the original image entirely and doing whatever you want with it. Background removal is one ot the staple arts in graphic design or photoshopping in general.
